Houston Regains 'Smoggiest City' Title

Houston has regained the title of the 'Smoggiest City'in nation pulling ahead of Los Angeles.

On August 24th 2000, Los Angeles regained the title for the 'Smoggiest City' in the nation. But as Southern California's smog season winds down, Houston has surged ahead to reclaim that title. Much of Los Angeles' ozone is formed when exhaust from cars and smokestacks released during the day mixes with other chemicals and sunshine. In Houston, much of the pollution comes from oil refineries, petrochemical plants and cargo ships."
