Daniel Libeskind's design criticized for leaving tower base vulnerable to car bombs.
"For months, the NYPD has been warning the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the WTC site, that certain design features of the Freedom Tower made it vulnerable to attack.Of particular concern was the liberal use of glass on the lower floors and the fact that the façade would be a mere 7.5 metres from the street, exposing it to car bombings. The spire that would crown the building may have to be redesigned because its twisting form requires a larger-than-normal base, bringing the ground floor closer to the street. The development could be delayed as much as a year to account for the changes."
