It also will be the first UC campus in the San Joaquin Valley, where college attendance rates have traditionally lagged behind those of the state's other regions...

Less than five months from its opening day, the newest University of California campus is rising from the gently rolling grasslands near this farming town in the San Joaquin Valley."
