Assertions are surfacing that a Virginia Congressman is attempting to influence local planning issues in order to ensure that Democratic voters do not move in to his Republican district.
Representative Tom Davis (R-VA) last week announced his intent to use Congress's authority over Washingtons Metro system to force a downsizing of a TOD proposed adjacent to a station near his home. His intentions for doing so may not be simple NIMBYism, though, as multiple Fairfax County officials have come forward to say that the Congressman told them he wants to block urban apartments from being built in his district because the sort of person who would live in an urban apartment would not be likely to vote Republican.
