Student teams must develop a plan for eight acres the city is looking to redevelop into a showcase.

"Jackson was named a "cool city" earlier this year by Gov. Jennifer Granholm. The designation gives Jackson priority in consideration for state community improvement grants, loans programs and assistance programs, which could help in the development of the buildings.

"Applications are due by Jan. 26 and teams will have until April 8 to submit proposals."
