With thousands of new residents poised to pour into high-density condos, Miami officials may restart its abandoned trolley lines without Federal funding.
In a farsighted move, Miami leaders are pushing for new streetcars to be the public transit of choice for downtown. Bolstered by the success of similar systems in other Sun Belt cities, Miami thinks that trolleys will convince young professionals to use mass transit rather than be stuck in traffic. Several council members, representing the poorest neighborhoods, claim this new plan only serves the "Gucci-driven."
