The Hearst Foundation is pressuring California to approve a $95 million deal for preservation of the Hearst Ranch on California's Central Coast. "Along California's incomparable coast, there is no property more spectacular than Hearst Ranch. Stretching for 18 miles along Highway 1, it is renowned for its shoreline bluffs and ocean views." But details of the plan are sketchy, and a confidentiality agreements prevents state officials from revealing more. An L.A. Times commentary argues that "before the state agrees to the deal, the public must get answers to some critical questions..."
