Building A Beautiful Parking Garage

"No matter how utilitarian it is, a building can have beauty." Even a parking garage.

"Most parking garages in this country are beautyless behemoths -- big bland boxes whose only claim to architectural design is a feeble attempt to match the exterior of the building they accompany. Pick out a white concrete-panel office tower in almost any American cityscape and next to it squats a parking garage also clad in white concrete panels... But the new Wabash Parking garage breaks the bunkerlike box. Literally. Though six stories, the building, clad in horizontal ribbons of etched glass, seems to float above the cityscape at Lamar Boulevard and 33rd Street, on the eastern edge of the Seton Medical Center campus."
