Covington, Kentucky is building modular homes on city-owned lots in an attempt to increase the city's affordable housing supply, reports Christian Hauser for WKRC.

"City leaders say the modular approach is designed to create affordable housing that can be installed quickly and efficiently. Covington Mayor Ron Washington said the city has hundreds of vacant lots available and also pointed to the cost of maintaining abandoned properties." The homes, which each cost $300,000 to build, will sell for $250,000 each.

According to Hauser, "The Pleasant Street project is planned in three phases over the next year. If everything goes to plan, the city expects 15 new homes will be created on the street by the spring of next year."
