Amtrak announced a preliminary framework for reorganizing its corporate structure, a change that would keep Amtrak as the parent company providing governance and strategic direction over three businesses: passenger services, infrastructure management and fleet management.
According to an article in Mass Transit by Noah Kolenda, "Amtrak says the proposed structure is designed to bring greater visibility into performance and costs, enable better-informed decisions and align the authority with responsibility and results—creating a more accountable, focused and agile company built to carry more passengers, support more service and deliver stronger financial performance." Amtrak will start developing a detailed design and implementation plan in September and is soliciting public input.
