Nevada's Clark County Commission unanimously approved a data center expansion project near Las Vegas, allowing a high-density facility on a nine-acre site.

As Peter Mwaniki explains in Construction Review, "Under original industrial land-use entitlements, Switch already held the legal right to construct large, traditional commercial warehouses on the property." The new structure will house server infrastructure, utility control rooms and other facilities.

According to Mwaniki, "The construction phase of LAS 19 is expected to generate an immediate surge of high-paying jobs for local trades and infrastructure engineers. However, once the building is fully operational, the permanent staffing requirements drop drastically."

Clark County officials say they are considering more stringent regulations on future data center projects. "Moving forward, lawmakers are actively pondering a comprehensive framework for future regulations to ensure that Nevada’s digital gold rush does not compromise the stability of its local communities and public utilities."
