We share images from six of the cities around the country where members of three national organizing networks took action on May 20 to protest cuts to federal housing funding and lift up local solutions.
On May 20, tenants and housing advocates in over a dozen U.S. cities participated in a National Day of Action on Housing, organized by Right to the City, People’s Action Institute, and Center for Popular Democracy. The protests opposed proposed cuts to HUD’s budget and connected national disinvestment to local housing struggles.
Events took place in cities like Washington, D.C., Albany, Boston, New Orleans, Tucson, and Detroit. Advocates demanded rent control, stronger tenant protections, repair rights, anti-displacement funding, and support for public housing. Elected officials, including Reps. Rashida Tlaib, Delia Ramirez, and Summer Lee, joined the D.C. rally. The day also highlighted recent wins, such as New York’s new $50 million housing voucher pilot, while calling for continued legislative action.
