The Department of Planning and Building oversees exciting and dynamic projects involving land use in the unincorporated areas of San Luis Obispo County. We are a department of ninety-three staff committed to the protection of life, safety and the welfare of the environment and our community.

The Diablo Canyon Power Plant is expected to cease operation in the year 2025. This presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with an experienced Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning Manager and Principal Environmental Specialist to process land use applications and manage the preparation of the Environmental Impact report and related technical studies.

The Role
The Senior Planner for the Diablo Canyon Power Plant Decommissioning Team will use their industrial permitting and land use planning experience to manage complex, multi-faceted projects under direction of the Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning Manager.

We are expecting to hold Department Level interviews for this position 6/28/21-6/29/21.

Experienced in California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
Experienced in reviewing Environmental Impact Reports
Familiar with Federal, State, and local land use and environmental laws, ordinances, regulations, and standards
Knowledgeable about environmental disciplines covered under CEQA, such as biology, cultural resources, transportation, public services, hydrology and noise.
Passionate about working with the community and are excited about contributing to a project with far reaching public interest, this opportunity is for you.

Graduation from an accredited institution with either a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in urban and regional planning, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, natural resources management, environmental, physical or life science, or a closely related field.


Four years of professional level experience in urban and regional planning and environmental review/analysis or environmental impact assessment work which requires a state approved specialized professional license or certification.
