Jared Green shares news of the finalists in a design competition for a $40 million park on the 11th Street Bridge spanning the Anacostia River in Washington D.C.
The proposed designs were the result of a national design competition, launched six months ago. Describing the proposed park, Jared Green writes: "Expected to cost upwards of $40 million, the new bridge park will run 900 feet over the foundation of an old freeway spanning the Anacostia River, connecting historic Capitol Hill and Anacostia neighborhoods and creating a new venue for 'healthy recreation, environmental education, and the arts.'"
The competition currently has four finalists, with the announcement of the winning design team expected on October 16. The four finalists:
- Balmori Associates / Cooper, Robertson & Partners
- OLIN / OMA
- Stoss Landscape Urbanism / Höweler + Yoon Architecture
- Wallace Roberts & Todd (WRT) / NEXT Architects / Magnusson Klemencic Associates
