Got what it takes to revamp the Union Square, Washington Monument Grounds, and Constitution Gardens? The design competition is now open to anyone who has the vision of making this revered space in D.C. the "best park in the world."
The estimated cost of the 20-year restoration project is $700 million. The U.S. Department of the Interior will match the private funds raised by the Trust for the National Mall.
The Dirt reports, "Donald Stastny, an architect and urban designer, will manage the nearly one-million dollar competition process. He said that the Trust is now working on putting together a high-profile jury and advisory panel."
Registration deadline is Oct. 8, 2011. Finalists will be selected next April and the winning designs announced in the following month. Click here for additional information on the competition.
