Whitney Gould reminds us why Jane Jacobs was a visionary.
"As a reluctant godmother to today's New Urbanism, with its emphasis on compact, walkable development, she is also faulted for helping to spawn the kind of uniformity she deplored. And for someone who scorned planning, at least in its orthodox guise, it's ironic that her ideas are now institutionalized (and sometimes enforced as dogma) in the planning and zoning codes of Milwaukee and many other cities."
