GIS Analyst and Land Planner
The GIC is seeking a motivated, self-directed, creative individual who has advanced skills in GIS analysis and a strong commitment to data-driven community planning to join its growing, innovative team. The GIC provides planning, mapping and design services to help communities protect or restore their green infrastructure. Green Infrastructure includes intact forests, urban tree canopy, wetlands, springs, parks and rivers and agricultural soils that provide clean water, air quality, wildlife habitat, recreation and food. These resources are ‘green infrastructure’ because they create healthful communities, sustain the economy and support cultural values.
The position of GIS Analyst/Land Planner entails remote assessment of natural and cultural resources at a landscape scale using geographic information systems (GIS). This position requires experience in both environmental planning and geographic information systems modeling. Technical qualifications include high-level proficiency in ArcGIS, including modeling and Python scripting. Knowledge of applied remote sensing concepts and feature extraction is required. It also requires designing and building GIS models of natural and cultural resources for use at multiple scales. The analyst supports GIC’s clients in identifying strategies to protect and enhance natural assets and recommending land plans and policies to conserve the most critical resources. The position also requires public speaking, teaching and training at GIC’s workshops, conferences and community events, as well as periodic technical support for university classes.
