Compact For A Sustainable Bay Area

Six Bay Area agencies plan for the future.

After considering the plan for six years, two-thirds of the BayArea's cities and seven of its nine counties have adopted the Compactfor aSustainable Bay Area. The compact promotes a prosperous economy, ahealthyenvironment and social equity. Similarly, the Association of Bay AreaGovernments, next month will consider forthe first time projections that show a modest amount of new housing andjobs moving away from the suburbs and into cities. Despite projectionsfornearly 500,000 new houses within the next two decades, the Bay Area willstill need an additional 200,000 homes.
