Suburban Life Pitting Farmers Vs. Neighbors

New Jersey farmers are counting on the state's "Right to Farm" Act to protect them from legal harrassment by their new McMansion neighbors. As developable land becomes increasingly scarce and the demand for "rolling green acres" in rustic country settings, more farms are finding themselves surrounded by upscale housing developments whose residents don't want to contend with farming realities, such as manure smells. Even though these new residents "came to the nuisance" many are strenuously trying to shut down their farm neighbors, which they contend, infringe upon their quality of life.
