Target will likely become the first major retailor in Chicago to build a green rooftop designed to curb air pollution.

"Rooftop gardens, popular in parts of Europe, are designed to absorb air pollution, cool rooftop temperatures and, ultimately, cut energy costs.Mayor Richard Daley became the city's biggest proponent of rooftop gardens following a trip to Germany several years ago. He facilitated placement of a rooftop garden at City Hall in 2000 and has encouraged other landlords to follow suit."
