With 40 acres of high-end shops, townhouses, tiled roofs and landscaped streets, Santana Row was the most intense single development in San Jose's history. Built on the site of the old Town and Country Shopping Center, it was to include 1,200 residences, 680,000 square feet of retail space and a 213- room hotel. Home rentals were to range from about $1,800 a month for a small loft to $15,000 a month for an "executive villa."
