The International Economic Development Council’s interactive education courses are the leading source of education for economic developers at all levels and provide a national perspective focusing on real life experiences, best practices, and tools you can use in your community.

One of our core training courses is Real Estate Development and Reuse. In 2015, we’ll be delivering this course in four different North American cities. Each will be taught by expert instructors and include discussion of useful case studies. If certification is in your future, this training is a requirement for taking the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) exam.

Real Estate Development and Reuse Course Description:

This course clearly articulates the eight stage process for real estate development and reuse. Specifically, course participants will learn the fundamentals of market and site analysis, financial feasibility, and what political considerations are required to move a development project from conception to realization. Additionally, this course will cover a wide variety of financing tools that are available at the local, regional, and state levels, including tax increment financing, bond financing, tax credits, tax abatements, land assembly, and brownfield redevelopment. Multiple in-class case studies will be used to help participants work through actual financial and regulatory problems.

While anyone is welcome to take the training offered in Ottawa, Ontario, the content discussed will be designed to meet the needs of a Canadian economic development professional.

Course Highlights:
