Vancouver Proves That 'New Urbanism' Works

Experts say the 'New Urbanism' experiment in Vancouver, Canada, is working and the city is years ahead of other Canadian and U.S. cities in developing its downtown.

"The 2001 census shows trends for the region of concentrated growth in the biggest centres -- downtown Vancouver and in some areas adjacent to the SkyTrain line...Vancouver is about five to 10 years ahead of other Canadian cities and even U.S. cities in developing its downtown, partly because its industrial lands emptied sooner than those in other cities."
