"Only a decade ago, South Ranch was a scrubby, 40-acre lot that Bank of America donated to Habitat for Humanity's Valley of the Sun affiliate for a project that made some area residents squirm, a 195-home development built and maintained by first-time homeowners climbing out of economic hardship. Rather than build a house here and a house there, the idea was to give affordable housing a new face by creating a community from the ground up."
