"In a push to cap off changes that started a decade ago with the spotted owl, environmental groups kicked off a campaign yesterday to persuade Congress and the White House to halt all old-growth logging on federal lands...Logging on federal land has declined since 1991...But the groups argued that 1.1 million acres of old-growth forests are still open to logging."
