The building boom in Manhattan, New York, has slowed down after the attacks on the World Trade Center.
"Construction in Midtown Manhattan has been stalled and some premier New York projects on the drawing board have been thrown into doubt because of the devastation wreaked downtown by the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, officials and construction executives said yesterday... Work slowed or halted on many Midtown skyscrapers on Tuesday, after the 110-story twin towers at the World Trade Center were rammed by hijacked jetliners and collapsed, killing thousands of people and damaging surrounding office buildings... developers and others are worrying that the long-term strains of clearing the downtown site and replacing an estimated 20 million square feet of space there will worsen the shortage of skilled workers in the city."
