Park leaders in the Greater Cleveland, Akron-Canton area have a vision of building more than 1,100 miles of bike and hike trails and preserving thousands of acres along streams and rivers.
Planners are presenting a regional preservation concept that links eight separate park districts in eight counties, more comprehensive then the area's Emerald Necklace, a metropolitan park plan dating back to 1916 that has led to the city's modern park district. The Trust for Public Land will conduct a study to gauge public interest and support, including the financial backing for the proposal. Park planners point to the innovative regional taxing district formed in the St. Louis area last November as an example of regional support for green space creation and preservation.
