In the next fifty years 10 western states will develop land the size of Cuba, according to a University of Colorado report.
The study, conducted by the Western Futures project, at the University of Colorado's Center of the American West, estimates "In the next 50 years, Colorado and 10 other Western states will develop open land roughly the size of Cuba and add more people than the current population of Spain... California alone could grow to 66 million residents - more than the overall population of the West in 2000. 'The future of the West is more sprawl,' said William Reibsame Travis, CU geography professor and project leader of the study."
