While planners prefer dense development around a Metro station, residents resist "Urban Village" concept.

"On one side were planners and developers who repeatedly proposed building something like a small city there -- a cluster of offices, shops, a hotel andapartments. This, they said, would be the perfect complement for a train station and the best way to build Metro ridership by making it convenient." Concerned about losing small-town character to tall buildings, residents oppose dense development.
