Professional Development Institute – Developing leaders for urban planning in the 21st century
Professional Development Institute
Rutgers University's Professional Development Institute serves current leaders, emerging leaders, and those with the passion and potential to become leaders. We promote a leadership model - Leading from the Middle - that is cost-effective, culturally competent and collaborative. This model is designed for the challenges and opportunities facing 21st century professionals seeking to serve the public good.
Leaders are learners. Leaders are busy. Leaders want practical information. Leaders want to do good and do better.
We further this goal by:
• Offering leadership training and development – such as Leading from the Middle – designed to help planners and related professionals meet the challenges of working in dynamic and diverse environments.
• Building planners' professional skills through the Bloustein Online Continuing Education Program (BOCEP) and Learning Labs. BOCEP, which provides high-quality, interactive online education, is designed for busy professionals who want to learn a lot at their convenience. Learning Labs are interactive webinars on important issues facing planners and other professionals in the public service.
• Advocating for quality, affordable continuing education. The Professional Development Institute led an alliance of continuing education providers seeking to make the AICP Certification Maintenance program more affordable and equitable. We succeeded.
• Offering professional development tips through our newsletter, PDI Advisor.
Our courses are cost-effective. We make our programming affordable to a wide range of professionals because we believe in promoting social justice through continuing education. Professionals working in small nonprofit organizations should have the same access to knowledge and high quality learning as executives in large organizations.
We have several upcoming courses: Retail Market Analysis, Current Trends in Land Use Law, Leading from the Middle, Presentation Bootcamp. To learn more or to register, please visit http://www.policy.rutgers.edu/pdi
If you're in New Jersey this week, please visit us at the American Planning Association New Jersey annual conference in New Brunswick on November 7.
