Duties: Planners are responsible for the preparation and presentation of studies and reports, as well as prepare and present studies and reports (written, graphic and oral). Planning staff also assists with the preparation of task assignments within the assigned Section and coordinating these tasks with other Sections and/or Divisions of the Department. Represent the Department when necessary.

Requirements: Master's or bachelor's degree in urban planning, regional planning or a related field (ie architecture, geography); and depending on position some professional level planning experience is required; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of urban planning. Knowledge of the techniques of planning research and of the municipal, state and federal agencies and procedures involved in urban planning. Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems and databases. Ability to utilize a computer to interpret and analyze technical and statistical information and to prepare technical, oral and written reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees, officials, other agencies, and the general public. Ability to present technical information clearly and in an interesting manner to various groups and the general public.
