Vancouver Green Scenes Tour
During this jam-packed two-day tour, you will learn about and see first-hand how Vancouver's brand of the new urbanism and sustainable development is unfolding on the ground. Held in conjunction with Smart Growth BC's Conference "Building Complete Communities- Developers Leading the Way", each Green Scenes Tour participant will receive a certificate of completion from the Centre for Sustainable Development at Simon Fraser University.
Highlights of the tour include:
•mixed use and urban waterfront developments that embrace the new urbanism and "smart growth" principles
•suburban in-fill developments that contribute to complete communities
•adaptive re-use of industrial and warehouse buildings
•sensitive integration of non-market housing
•a floating village
You will hear from the experts-developers, architects, engineers and marketers, who built LEED accredited buildings or deployed their own adaptive brand of state-of-the-art green building technology, including innovative heating and renewable energy systems, composting toilets, grey and black water recovery. You will see innovative street design approaches, aimed at managing storm water and calming traffic, while achieving other "green" goals. On-site experts will be available to answer questions at many of the stops.
This Green Scenes tour is jointly presented by Garden Heart Productions, COUNTERPOINT Communications Inc., Smart Growth BC and the Centre for Sustainable Development at Simon Fraser University.
