Pittsburgh Region Selects INDEX For Visioning Support
The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC) has selected INDEX Paint the Region as its visioning support tool for the 10-county region surrounding Pittsburgh.
For this 7,100 sq. mi. region of 2.5 million persons, INDEX will be used by stakeholders to create alternative future scenarios in tandem with REMI, MERLAM, and MPO transporation models. As part of SPC's "Project Region," the scenarios will respond to public input calling for sustainability and smart growth in updating of the region's transportation and economic development plans.
Pittsburgh joins similar planning processes being supported by INDEX tools in Florida, Illinois, California, and other states. INDEX is a suite of interactive GIS tools that design and evaluate land-use and transportation scenarios at regional, community, and neighborhood scales.
