BOCEP: professional development for planning professionals who want to be more effective
Rutgers University Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy
Bloustein Online Continuing Education for Planners is made for professionals who are serious about their work and don't want to waste their time.
We teach courses on current and important topics, such as form-based zoning, environmental planning law, effective client relations, managing water resources to avoid disasters, and current trends in land use law. All our courses are designed and taught by experienced planning professionals. We pick our topics and design our courses by asking professionals like you what and how you want to learn.
In November, we are offering Developer's Toolbox: Market Analysis and Effective Client Relations. Market Studies will help you build better analytical skills for economic and community development. Effective Client Relations will help you find new ways to overcome resistance to change.
BOCEP is produced by the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy of Rutgers University in New Jersey. BOCEP students and instructors are from throughout the United States. (We've also had planners from Italy, Grand Cayman, and The Philippines, along with American planners in Iraq.) You will meet planners at all levels, from new planning professionals to planning directors and public executives.
BOCEP courses are designed to be convenient, accessible and reasonably priced. Planners told us that the biggest barriers to their learning more were: lack of time, courses were in at inconvenient locations or times, and price. BOCEP courses are fully online. You can participate in them at anytime from any computer with an Internet connection. There are no scheduled meetings. You learn by completing assigned readings and discussing issues or solving problems with your instructor and classmates. (BOCEP offers the rare opportunity to share ideas with your peers from around the country.)
Each BOCEP course costs $250. Planetizen subscribers receive a discount of $25 per course. (Please use Promotion Code: F0883) And there are other discounts of up to 40%.
More than 75% of participants said in course evaluations that they "learned a great deal" in their course. More than 80% said the BOCEP course format helped them learn. More than 90% would recommend BOCEP to other planners.
