Learn to be more persuasive with clients, colleagues, supervisors and elected officials
Rutgers University -- Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy
It's frustrating when clients, colleagues and supervisors don't listen. When they say "no," are they rejecting your ideas, your presentation – or you? Effective Client Relations, a new course offered by Bloustein Online Continuing Education for Planners (BOCEP), can help you overcome resistance and build more successful relationships for planning.
This course is useful to all planning professionals who want to be more effective in getting plans accepted and implemented. Students will learn to apply best practices used by successful communicators and consultants.
The course runs from November 23 to December 31. As with all BOCEP courses, you can participate at any time from any computer with an Internet connection. There are no scheduled meetings. You will learn by engaging in dialogues with the instructor and planning professionals from around the United States. Students include senior-, mid- and junior-level planners, as well as officials and non-traditional planners. You'll spend about the same amount of time in the course as you would in a two- to three-day workshop. (But you don't have to travel or take time off from work.)
The course is taught by Leonardo Vazquez, AICP/PP, Director of BOCEP and The Leading Institute (formerly APA/LeadershipPlenty), a unique leadership development program for planners and community development professionals. He is also a practicing planner with more than a decade of experience in planning and journalism.
You'll learn a lot. More than 70% of students said in recent course evaluations that they "learned a great deal" in their course. More than 80% said the online dialogues "helped them learn the material."
The tuition for every BOCEP course is $250. But there are many discounts of 10% to 40%. Planetizen subscribers receive a discount of $25 per course. (Please use Promotion Code: F0883)
Effective Client Relations is one of more than a dozen BOCEP courses being offered between now and May 2006. BOCEP courses specialize in land use law, urban design, and smart growth planning and implementation. Other courses running in November include Environmental Planning and Developer's Toolbox.
