NEW CHATTANOOGA PLANNING FIRM
TO FOCUS ON "CITIES AND THEIR MOVING PARTS"

Four Chattanooga planning veterans have joined forces to create the firm of Kennedy, Coulter, Rushing & Watson. Originally established in 2001 as Kennedy & Associates, the company will now focus on strategic planning for cities as well as the civic organizations, agencies, institutions and businesses they comprise.

The four have been intimately involved in Chattanooga's remarkable renaissance, some of their involvement dating back 20 years.

Prior to creating the company, Jim Kennedy served as CEO of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce and, before that, president of the Convention and Visitors Bureau. He also served as public relations director for the RiverCity Company and executive director of the Chattanooga Downtown Partnership.

Ann Coulter was most recently executive vice president of the RiverCity Company. In 2003, she was awarded a Loeb Fellowship from the Harvard School of Design and spent nine months in residence studying urban planning and design, citizen processes and leadership. Ms. Coulter is a former Director of Economic and Community Development for the City of Chattanooga and former executive director of the Regional Planning Agency.

Mr. Watson recently retired after 25 years as Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He has worked as the Chattanooga's urban design consultant and director of its Planning & Design Studio since 1984. His work has received numerous awards, including AIA's prestigious Thomas Jefferson Award for Public Architecture in 2001.

Mr. Rushing was a senior planner at the Planning & Design Studio before leaving in July.

The company has already been working with the city of LaGrange, Georgia to develop implementation strategies for their Redevelopment Master Plan. Later this month, they will begin work on Knoxville, Tennessee's South Waterfront Plan. Several other projects are in the works, in and outside of Tennessee.

Kennedy, Coulter, Rushing & Watson offices are located in downtown Chattanooga.
