Online continuing education courses in planning law, management and urban design
Rutgers University, Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy
There is still time to register for courses in planning law, management, urban design and redevelopment offered by Rutgers University's Bloustein Online Continuing Education for Planners.
Between June 1 and July 6, BOCEP offers Current Trends in Land Use Law, Managing Risk in Partnerships and Urban Design. Between July 11 and August 15, BOCEP offers Redevelopment Law and Legal Issues, Strategic Planning and Implementation, and Transportation Planning for Placemaking. BOCEP is a program of the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy to enhance planning practice.
Courses are designed to be useful and convenient for professionals in planning, including professional planners, planning officials, and other land use professionals involved in planning. Each course costs $250, but there are discounts up to $100 for members of the American Planning Association New York Metro and New Jersey chapters, Bloustein alumni, and members of New Jersey Planning Officials and Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations. Planetizen subscribers receive a $50 discount per course. Please use Promotion Code: PLAN506 when registering.
Current Trends in Land Use Law helps planners understand and approach major laws and legal trends that affect planning practice today. Students will get in-depth analysis on such issues as the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, the Telecommunications Act of 1996, signage regulations, and redevelopment regulations.
Managing Risk in Partnerships is for any professional engaged in an alliance or collaboration. On paper, partnerships seem easy to create, manage and lead. They're not. Poorly created and poorly managed collaborations can lead to stifling inaction, massive inefficiencies, power struggles, and bitterness and cynicism from unrealistic expectations. This course helps students identify and address the five biggest challenges in creating and managing partnerships.
Urban Design helps students explore urban design concepts and techniques. Students will have ample opportunities to consider how functional and aesthetic concerns are intertwined and can be viewed through planning goals.
The courses are taught by seasoned professionals and expert researchers. Students can participate at any time from any computer with an Internet connection.
