Look Who's Teaching in BOCEP
Rutgers University, Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy
Various experts in their field are teaching courses in land use law, redevelopment, alliance and partnership building and urban design in the Bloustein Online Continuing Education for Planners (BOCEP).
William Kearns, who will be teaching Current Trends in Land Use Laws and Land Use Laws in New Jersey, has written and lectured extensively on issues such as signage; redevelopment law; New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law; and the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA). He is a partner in the firm of Kearns, Vassallo & Kearns and is General Counsel for the New Jersey League of Municipalities.
Karen Phillips knows how to get things done. As a founder and former CEO of the Abysinnian Development Corporation, she helped bring in hundreds of millions of investment dollars into Harlem. She is now an independent consultant and New York City Planning Commissioner, where she deals with the challenges of planning and zoning a huge and diverse city. She will be teaching Strategic Planning and Implementation.
Carlos Rodrigues is more than an urban designer – he's an expert in smart growth. He is now the Planning Director of the Princeton office of Looney Ricks Kiss Architects, and teaching community design studios. Previously, he spent 10 years with New Jersey State Government, as Acting Director and Manager of Plan Implementation for the New Jersey Office of Smart Growth, where he was responsible for physical planning and design issues statewide.
When officials and executives in central New Jersey have trouble coming to terms, Dianne Brake is often asked to bring the parties together. As the head of the Regional Planning Partnership, she is well known for her facilitation and partnership building skills. She will be co-teaching the Alliance and Partnership Building class.
