What are the world's most expensive cities? The most expensive U.S. city only ranks seventh.
"The scarcity of many goods in Belgrade means that the cost of living in the Serbian capital is more than 20% higher than it is in New York, according to a survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit, a sister company of The Economist. The comparison is meant to provide a guide to companies that are sending executives and their families overseas. Belgrade apart, Eastern Europe remains a relatively cheap billet. Other expensive cities are mainly in East Asia: Tokyo remains the priciest, with living costs more than 50% higher than New Yorks. South-East Asian cities are generally much cheaper than their counterparts farther north. Emerging markets in South America tend to be on the steep side."
