The Rebirth Of The Property Rights Movement

Planner and essayist Richard Carson provides insight into the growing property rights movement.

Two events have spurred this national movement that has resulted in ballot initiatives in 23 states. First, there was the overwhelming passage of Measure 37 in Oregon that seriously crippled the state's mandated planning program. The second major event was the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in Kelo v. New London. This decision allowed government condemnation of private property for private development. Both events have resonated with many of the American voters.
