The vote was a bipartisan effort tosecure $2.99 billion in annual funding for parks, recreation, wildlife,and historic preservation, among other conservation programs. CommitteeChairman Frank H. Murkowski called it "the most significant commitmentof resources ever made to conservation by the Congress."
