Amtrak receives $5.3 billion for new trains, new tracks and infrastructure improvement

The 41 projects to receive grants were selected from 103 applicants seeking more than $11.6 billion.

On Friday, Amtrak received $5.3 billion in federal funding for rail-related projects. Trains.com reports that 41 projects in 23 states are receiving funds under the new National Railroad Partnership Program "which combines several previous grant programs funded under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021," including more than $2 billion diverted from cancelled grants for the California High Speed Rail Program.

The funding includes $2.05 billion for equipment to fund 43 new trainsets, as well as bridge repair, signal and track improvements and new tracks, including several projects adding double tacks to improve bottlenecks
