As the search for a new dean for the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University continues, Alan Altshuler, Professor of Urban Policy and Planning, will serve as dean in the interim. Most people attribute his appointment to his past experience in administrative posts. "He has previously served as academic dean of the Kennedy School, director of the Taubman Center for State and Local Government and dean of the New York University Graduate School of Public Administration. He was also Massachusetts [S]ecretary of [T]ransportation and [C]onstruction...."
