A Canadian transit lobby group is calling on the federal Liberals to carry through on their urban-renewal promises by dedicating a few cents of the gasoline tax to cover a looming shortfall in public transportation.
In a report out Monday, the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) is warning that transit systems will need $21-billion between 2004 and 2008, more than half again as much as the last five-year estimate, tabulated only two years ago.
