D.C. Plans Ambitious Waterfront Revival

"Southwest Washington is a rarity -- a 1960s urban redevelopment project that actually created a functional neighborhood...The D.C. Council last week approved a plan that [plans to turn] the waterfront into a more bustling commercial center strongly connected to the neighborhood around it...In total, the plan would comprise 700 to 900 residential units, perhaps 20 percent reserved for people with moderate incomes; a new hotel; and more than 230,000 square feet of retail. "
