How are land use patterns affected by the public's view of developers?

This column is an answer to a recent letter to the editor decrying "greedy developers" who build high density development for profit driven reasons only. While agreeing that cogent arguments against high density development can and should be made,the author also points out that this widely held perception can be far from the truth, but is having a real impact on land use decisions today.
