"UA President Peter Likins wants to close the school by 2005 as part of his Focused Excellence plan, which would cut some programs to free up resources to improve others... the school produces desert-savvy planners to help Arizona communities manage growth in the nation's second-fastest-growing state, said city of Gilbert Planning Director Jerry Swanson, a UA planning school alumnus."
