American Cities Dangerous for Pedestrians
"Mean Streets 2000", a study released by the Surface Transportation Policy Project, blames sprawling development and inadequate sidewalks or crosswalksfor making American cities dangerous for pedestrians. This studyalso found a 42% drop in walking trips in the last 20 years and recommendsthat communities ensure new streets have sidewalks and slow down trafficon local streets. Tampa, Florida, was found to be the most dangerous for pedestrians.
