The City of Walnut Creek is looking to fill two full-time Assistant Planner vacancies in the Current Planning section of the Planning Division of the Community Development Department. The Assistant Planner position is an entry-level position and will be assigned planning activities of entry-level to moderate difficulty. Most of the work assignments include specific directions and are performed within the limits of prescribed policies and guidelines. This position is expected to develop a level of knowledge and ability that will permit upward progression.
 
The Current Planning Team within the Planning Division is responsible for implementing City policies that direct the physical development of Walnut Creek. Planning serves as the point of entry for development proposals and provides assistance to architects, designers, developers, builders, and residents navigating the regulatory process. This process can include single family property owners as well as residential and commercial builders. On a daily basis, staff assists customers with permit processing and provides guidance on City policies related to land development and land use. Staff also maintains and implements the General Plan, the City's long range blueprint and policy document.
  
The Planning Division anticipates a continuation of recent high levels of current planning applications including a range of projects from new signs to large mixed-use developments. The City Council has also adopted several work program assignments for the Planning Division intended to enhance the economic and social wellbeing of the City.
