“Clovis - A Way of Life”
Located in the northeast quadrant of the Fresno-Clovis Metropolitan Area, Clovis is situated in the midst of the agriculturally rich San Joaquin Valley. Since its incorporation in 1912, Clovis has been the “Gateway to the Sierra.” Dedicated to promoting planned growth while retaining its unique western atmosphere, the City’s population has more than doubled since 1985, reaching the current level of close to 115,000, and encompassing over 23 square miles in area.
The City of Clovis is a community with access to abundant recreational resources, community festivals, and family related activities and services. Clovis has long adopted the slogan “Clovis - A Way of Life” which is true in all aspects. This growing community of over 100,000 is dedicated to promoting economic self-sufficiency and planned land use. Although part of the larger Fresno/Clovis metropolitan area (pop. 500,000+), Clovis residents have the advantage of a unique blend of both rural and urban living. Yosemite, Kings Canyon-Sequoia National Parks, and Sierra Nevada Lakes offer some of the state’s finest recreational activities within a 90 minute picturesque drive.
The City population is growing and new housing is being constructed to meet these needs without compromising the integrity of the strong community identity found in the City of Clovis. Clovis prides itself on its thriving Old Town area, outlying urban villages, and miles of connecting trails. Safe streets, an outstanding school district, responsive safety services, access to varied recreational opportunities, and strong community identity all contribute to Clovis’ reputation as a great place to live.

Incumbents regularly plan, direct, and review the work of assigned staff and serve in a coordinating and technical capacity to commissions and committees. Positions in this class have considerable independence in selecting work methods from a variety of standard methods and procedures. Instructions given by the supervisor generally do not provide all of the information needed to complete the assignment. Incumbents are expected to resolve most problems confronted through the application of judgment and precedent, referring to the supervisor only those which involve the establishment of new procedures or which involve solutions which are inconsistent with departmental procedures and policies.
